The paper presents the author´s views on the role of international experience on the development of higher education. Through examples and personal experiences, the author demonstrates a positive contribution of academic cooperation in education and science to the development and improvement of research and educational activities of the Slovak universities´ departments and their staff and PhD students. Particular attention is paid to the importance of the exchange of information and experience in the management of higher education at the national level.
Education is built on a balance of common - pan-European respectively global - principles, and on the other hand, the unique national circumstances. Through the examples from the development of Slovak higher education over the past 15 years, the author conveys his views on certain essential issues concerning the Slovak higher education and science.
